Rock Crystal
Rock Crystal, the purest form of quartz.
The ancient Greeks called it “krustallos” meaning “icy cold” because some philosophers believed the mineral to be a form of supercooled ice.
Quartz is a mineral made up of silicon and oxygen and is the most abundant and widely distributed mineral found on the planet.
There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones and have been used in jewellery and carvings since antiquity including Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Aventurine, Agate and Jasper. The colour variations arise from the presence of impurities.
Quartz makes an excellent gemstone because it is hard, durable and accepts a brilliant polish.
Rock Crystal is also said to be one of the most powerful healing stones, with energising and transforming properties.
Rock Crystal is the Birthstone for April
