Amazonite
Amazonite is a very ancient gemstone, known for its beauty and healing properties.
Amazonite, also known as Amazonstone, is a green to blue-green variety of Microcline, a Feldspar mineral that has taken its name from the Amazon River, from which these green stones were allegedly first obtained.
The stone has been used for thousands of years, and although it was rarely used in Ancient Egypt, some pieces of jewellery made with Amazonite survive. In the pre-Colombian days of South and Central America, Amazonite was not only used in jewellery but also in medicine since it was believed that this ‘Stone of Courage’ or ‘Stone of Hope’ brought great powers of protection against illness and disease.
Today, the undeniable beauty of Amazonite’s aesthetic is still commonly incorporated in jewellery and beadwork.
Amazonite is mined in different locations in the world, particularly Australia, Madagascar, Russia, Namibia, India, China, Canada, Brazil and the USA.
Amazonite is known to be a soothing stone as it calms the brain and nervous system and aids in maintaining optimum health.
